Research shows that the health of your teeth, gums, and supporting structures, reflects on your overall health. This why regular dental visits are important for improving or maintaining your general wellness.
Our team of Richmond dentists and hygienists provide comprehensive dental exams to fully assess your oral health, but rest assured, this doesn’t mean unnecessary exposure to radiation from x-rays. We take the minimal amount of x-rays needed to assess your dental health. We also use digital x-ray equipment which greatly reduces your radiation exposure. To round out our family dentistry services in our Richmond office, we take actual photos of your teeth and smile. From these photos, we can show you exactly what we’re seeing so you get a better understanding of your oral health.

Orthodontics traditionally involves bands, brackets, and wires (usually made of metal), to moving teeth into a desired position, closing gaps, and straightening rotations. Invisalign offers the same result, but through near invisible braces instead of the bulky, visible hardware.
Invisalign is a series of clear, custom-fitted trays that you switch every one or two weeks. Each aligner tray is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place. There is very little discomfort with the trays, and as the name suggests, they are almost invisible. You can feel confident about your smile even while the changes are happening.
Whether you have crooked teeth or gaps that make you self-conscious, Invisalign is an economical and comfortable way to get your dream smile. It’s also ideal for those who’ve had traditional braces before, and their teeth have since shifted and need readjustment.
Invisalign takes anywhere from a few months to a year to move your teeth.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull (temporal bone). The lower jaw is connected to the skull by a number of muscles and ligaments.
The TMJ is like a ball and socket. For normal joint function, a piece of cartilage called an articular disc is between the two bones, to act as a cushion or shock absorber. The articular disc allows the joint to move smoothly.

If you want to see dental hygienist in Richmond - we are here for you. Regular dental maintenance is important for your overall physical and social health.
Uneven tooth surfaces, especially under the gums or near the roots of teeth are common places for bacteria to collect. Even with regular brushing and flossing there are many areas of your mouth you just can’t reach, or don’t even know you’re not reaching.
If left untreated, this bacteria can cause plaque and tartar build-up, inflammation (gingivitis), bleeding, and bad breath or ultimately lead to gum disease, bone loss (periodontitis), weakening of surrounding structures, and eventually result in tooth loss.
Besides cleaning your teeth, our hygienist will give you some guidance on techniques you can use yourself, because a trip to the hygienist is not a replacement for regular home care of your teeth, gums, and mouth.
So, when it comes to consistent home care and regular dental hygiene appointments, it is not either/or, but both/and, to keep your mouth clean and healthy.

Your smile is your most valuable accessory! But if you’re not happy with your teeth or mouth, your smile may look less than enthusiastic. Our Richmond dental office can help you get your confident smile back.
Veneers
To brighten your smile, close spaces, make teeth appear straighter, or repair chips or worn surfaces, veneers are often suggested. Veneers are porcelain facings (about 1 mm thick) that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth and they provide a natural-looking tooth face to correct minor cosmetic concerns.
Whitening (or Bleaching)
When your teeth have been stained by coffee, tea, red wine, or other foods and beverages, teeth whitening can help brighten your tooth enamel, dramatically brightening your smile.
We use Spadent®, a safe, quick treatment done in one appointment in our Richmond office. If you prefer, we can make a custom kit of trays and gels so you can whiten your teeth at home over several days.

If you have a missing tooth and are interested in filling that gap, it is definitely worth considering a dental implant. This state-of-the-art prosthetic is a replacement for the missing root and is the support for the crown that can fill the space and give you back your biting power and your smile. Dental implants focus on the specific area of the missing tooth, meaning the surrounding teeth are not put at risk by altering them to fabricate a bridge or relying on them to hold in a denture.
Our dental implants are precision made from titanium - a material that is strong and has been rigorously tested for compatibility, function and longevity. They are surgically inserted into the jawbone and after a healing period (usually 3 or more months) when the implant is well integrated into the surrounding bone, it is time for the final restoration with a beautifully crafted, natural looking crown.
In the case of several missing teeth, two or more implants can be placed to support multiple crowns or a bridge. And further to that, for the patient who has lost most or all of their upper or lower teeth, several implants can be strategically placed to securely support a denture that will not move around while eating, talking or laughing.
Our dentists at Blundell Dental have the expertise in placing implants and can take you through the process from treatment planning and obtaining the scans needed, to placing the final restoration that will have you smiling again - maybe with the smile you have only dreamed of.
Contact our team at Blundell Dental to schedule a consultation to see if dental implants are a good option for you!
